Proya highly values the improvement of packaging sustainability. While clinging to the principles of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", we have defined three means for sustainability improvement, namely "optimized packaging design, upgraded packaging material, and package recycling" (please refer to the Proya Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report for detail).

For this reason, we have established the Sustainable Packaging Management Manual (hereinafter referred to as the "Management Manual"). The Management Manual provides all Proya brands and all package types with specific measures to improve packaging sustainability, thus reducing the packaging material use intensity and its pressure and negative impact on the environment during production and operation.

Product packaging

Our product packaging covers inner packaging and outer packaging. Proya and its brands enhance the sustainability of product packaging and reduce the generation of packaging waste by means of streamlined design, use of sustainable packaging materials, and package recycling.

【Case】 Proya Reduces Packaging Waste Generation Based on the 3R PrinciplesBased on the 3R principles, Proya takes active measures to streamline packages, reduce the interspace ratio of packages, and develop alternative packages to reduce the generation of packaging waste.· Streamlined packagesDouble Effect Brightening Essence and other 14 products apply non-plastic packages. The Energy and Revitalized Hydrating lines use less silver films. The Sun Around series do not use lining materials anymore.· Reduced package interspaceCompared with the original package, the new color box of the Double Effect Brightening Essence reduces the area by 10%, thus lowering the package interspace and lessening the use of paper.· Development of alternative packagesAlternative packages have been developed for Double Effect Brightening Essence, Energy Line Essence, Energy Line Cream, Deep Ocean Energy Wrinkless and Firming essence and Moisture Cream. New products are expected to go on the market this year. Without compromising product quality and functionality, Proya preferably uses certified sustainable materials, recycled materials, recyclable materials, degradable, compostable and reusable materials.Four product lines including Energy and Sun Around use FSC-certified paper. Advanced Original Repair Concentrating Mask 2.0 and Advanced Firming Nourishing Concentration Mask 2.0 apply low-carbon, environmentally-friendly, and sustainable certified composite fiber membrane fabrics. The fabrics used by Advanced Firming Nourishing Concentration Mask 2.0 are also certified by Vegan.【Case】Off & Relax Starts Recycling Initiative to improve packaging recyclabilityBased on the concept of "repurposing empty bottles and facilitating the infinite recycling of used items", Off & Relax has joined hands with handicraft enthusiasts to apply secondary designs on empty bottles while calling on consumers to give a second life to empty bottles, aiming to encourage more consumers to life a sustainable life. Off & Relax plans to launch the empty bottle recycling initiative in 2024 when empty bottles will be recycled and used for the development of regular products or peripheral products, which is an efficient way to improve the reuse of packaging materials.

Logistics and packaging

Logistics and transportation packaging covers the use of intermediate packaging such as courier cartons used by consumers and storage cartons used by distributors. All Proya brands are taking active measures to reduce the generation of packaging waste in logistics and warehousing by optimizing packaging materials.

【Case】Proya Continuously Enhances the Proportion of Sustainable Materials in Product PackageProya brands actively choose FSC-certified courier cartons and tape-free zipper cartons, and gradually replace fillers and outer packages with honeycomb paper and raffia grass. As of 1Q23, Proya brand saw 100% usage of FSC-certified courier cartons compared with 58% in 1Q22, used 3.54 million zipper cartons, and reduced the use of tape by 24,831 rolls.

Transportation swing packages

Logistics and transportation packaging covers packages used for internal transportation in production bases and packages used for swing logistics warehouses. By repeatedly reusing recyclable swing cartons and expanding their scope of usage, all Proya brands improve the usage rate of swing cartons and reduce the use of unnecessary disposable packages.

【Case】Green Recyclable CartonsWe continuously promote green recyclable courier cartons to reduce the use of disposable courier cartons. In the first quarter of 2023, we expanded the use of green recyclable cartons to logistics warehouses in Beijing and Changsha, and continued to promote green recyclable cartons to other warehouses. Green recyclable cartons have been recycled 710,000 times.
